Monumental Austrian Wine
These wines are in stock and ready to roll in the warehouse with limited availability. We are thrilled to feature these producers out of Wachau, Austria by way of Weygandt-Metzler Importing.
F.X. Pichler, notably one of, if not the THE, greatest dry white wine producer in all of Austria. The Pichler wine lineage is now in its seventh generation. Lucas Franz Pichler and his wife Johanna Elisabeth manage the family estate comprised of 20 hectares of insane single-vineyard sites that produce 50% Grüner Veltliner and 50% Riesling. It’s some of the hottest wine from the region that you can get your hands on. Franz Xaver (F.X.), Lucas’ father, and Rudolfine Pichler are still involved in the business and work in the vineyards to this day.

Similar to Pichler, the prodigious Franz Hirtzberger shares credibility for creating spectacular dry white wines of Austria. Both Pichler and Hirtzberger family estates are located on the north side of the Danube River. While Pichler captures richness of the warmer east side of Wachau, Hirtzberger highlights the cooler minerality of the west. The Hirtzberger family manages 20 hectares of terraces within many of the area’s greatest sites, Singerriedel, Honivogl, Rotes Tor, Hochrain, Axpoint, Pluris and the Steinborz.

And the Pichler legacy continues in tandem with other esteemed wine talent in the region. F.X.’s daughter, Elisabeth Pichler, married Erich Krutzler, who is known for a fantastic Blaufränkisch vineyard in Südburgenland and internationally recognized projects in Slovenia. Together, Elisabeth and Erich manage 10 hectares of Pichler-Krutzler vines. These blocks are sustainably farmed producing wines with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention. Consider this the hip, younger cousin of the Pichler wines listed above.
